Airbnb is taking its artificial intelligence push a step further with plans to introduce an AI-powered travel agent in the first half of 2027. The upcoming feature is designed to help users plan their holidays, explore accommodation options and make bookings without having to navigate multiple sections of the platform.
The company revealed its plans in its third-quarter 2026 shareholder letter, outlining an AI experience that goes beyond the capabilities of conventional chatbots. Instead of simply responding to text-based queries, Airbnb's travel agent will create a customized interface based on what users are looking for.
Airbnb feels that using a normal chatbot is not the best way to plan your holiday. The travellers always want to look at different destinations, check out pictures of the property, do comparisons and consult friends/family members before they make up their mind.
Airbnb has started working on an interface where all the travel aspects like maps, pictures, itinerary and comparisons of the properties could be done in real-time.
The AI agent will provide users the facility of taking action inside the interface itself. It might include making a booking of the accommodations and Airbnb has not yet revealed what all services would be offered once it becomes live.
In the future, Airbnb wants to organize the whole journey of the traveller through this one-stop platform.

The AI travel agent will be one of the steps that Airbnb has planned in order to integrate AI into the company's platform. At the moment, AI-enabled searching functionality has been launched by the company – now users can just use natural language to describe what they want to find.
Additionally, AI-generated descriptions for the listings have been provided in order to give users additional insight about them. By launching the AI travel agent, Airbnb wants to make the process of trip planning integrated rather than fragmented. In 2027, the company intends to start rolling out the new product.
