India’s solar industry is seeing a different AI trend, with automation reducing routine work while raising salaries. In 2026, solar manufacturers are using AI systems to check products and identify factory problems.

The technology reduces manual inspection work while creating demand for workers with AI and automation skills. Industry estimates show green energy salaries could rise 12% to 30% across experience levels this year. 

Entry-level salaries could increase 12% to 15%, while mid-level roles may gain 18% to 22%. Senior professionals could see increases between 25% and 30%, according to industry estimates.

Solar factories now use AI-powered cameras to find defects during production. Predictive tools can also identify problems before they become larger production issues. 

Automated systems can even change some production settings after detecting problems during manufacturing. These changes reduce repetitive tasks while creating new roles that require greater technical expertise. Workers must monitor machines, review data, adjust systems, and refine AI models as conditions change. 

Vijay Menon, COO of Navitas Solar, said, “We'd encourage the industry to look at AI adoption in solar manufacturing not through the lens of jobs lost, but through the value and skill level of the jobs being created.”

Menon also said the bigger challenge involves finding workers who can handle advanced manufacturing systems. The shortage highlights rising demand for people who understand manufacturing, AI, automation, and process controls. Companies investing in training could improve production quality while creating better-paid clean energy careers.

India’s clean energy transition could generate more than 35 million green jobs by 2047. This growth could create around 1.6 million jobs every year across clean energy industries. Future roles may focus more on AI-powered machines, data, automation, and engineering skills.

The solar industry shows how AI can change jobs rather than simply remove them. Routine work may decline, while skilled roles could offer stronger salaries and career opportunities.
