AI assistants are getting ready for a much bigger role. They aren’t merely LLMs to answer your queries; instead, these AI agents can now do a lot of things, including paying bills and booking hotels, just with a single prompt. Modern AI tools can search for products, compare prices, place orders, and even pay for them. Companies like OpenAI, Google, Amazon, and Anthropic are all working toward AI systems that can complete tasks with very little help from users.

The idea sounds simple. Users tell AI what they want and the tools complete the tasks accordingly. It can find the best deal, complete the purchase, and track the delivery. However, experts say this also creates a new problem. If the AI buys the wrong item, pays more than expected, or makes a mistake, who should be responsible? This question still does not have a clear answer.

Rubrik, the security and AI operations company, has already mentioned that organizations are already struggling to keep track of what their AI agents can access. Rubrik Zero Labs found that 86% of the global IT and security leaders expect AI agents to outpace their organization's security guardrails within the next year. Among them, only 23% have full visibility into the agents operating in their environments.

The problem here isn’t that an AI agent would suddenly become evil, but that it might access something that it shouldn’t.

AI May Soon Handle More Than Shopping

Shopping and flight booking are only the beginning. Experts believe future AI agents could bargain for better prices, compare insurance plans, manage home budgets, and renew subscriptions on their own. Some may even help users manage investments based on rules they have already set.

These features could make everyday life easier. At the same time, one wrong decision could cost users money. This is why many experts believe people should always approve important financial actions before the AI completes them.

Trust will Decide the Future

Artificial intelligence shopping agents could change the way people buy products and manage their money. They cut down on time and simplify routine chores. However, convenience must not be sacrificed for control. The more powerful AI gets, the better the way to generate trust will be to give the users the final word.
