Aadhaar holders can now update their email address through the official Aadhaar App without visiting an Aadhaar center. UIDAI started the facility on July 1, 2026, for six months. The service remains free through December 31, 2026.
The Aadhaar App supports email address update on Android and iOS devices. The process requires an Aadhaar login, email OTP verification, face authentication, and request submission. UIDAI introduced the facility to make Aadhaar services easier and more accessible through smartphones.
UIDAI said, “This is a free service via the Aadhaar App only, effective 1 July 2026 for a period of six months.”
The process starts with downloading or updating the official Aadhaar App from the relevant app store. The developer name should show the Unique Identification Authority of India.
After opening the app, users can log in using the Aadhaar number and registered mobile OTP. Depending on the app, PIN or biometric login options may also appear.
Next, open the Services section and select Email Add/Update. Enter the new email address carefully, then request the verification OTP.
The OTP arrives in the new email inbox and confirms ownership of the address. The app then asks for mandatory face authentication through the smartphone camera.
After authentication, review the displayed details and submit the request. The app generates an Update Request Number that helps track the request later.
Linking an email address also improves Aadhaar security and keeps authentication activity visible. UIDAI says email linking enables real-time alerts when an Aadhaar authentication request occurs.
UIDAI's website lists email address among the Aadhaar demographic details that can receive updates. The authority also stresses keeping Aadhaar information accurate and current.
The Aadhaar App facility gives residents a convenient digital option for email changes. Offline updates remain available through Aadhaar enrollment centers under applicable rules and charges.
