Apple’s upcoming iPhone 18 Pro is expected to put greater emphasis on privacy and security as artificial intelligence becomes a bigger part of the smartphone experience.
While Android flagships from companies such as Samsung and Google have also strengthened their security systems, Apple’s combination of on-device processing, dedicated hardware, and Private Cloud Compute could give the iPhone 18 Pro a distinct advantage.
Reports indicate that the iPhone 18 Pro and iPhone 18 Pro Max are expected to launch on September 9, 2026. The devices are also expected to feature Apple’s next-generation A20 Pro chip, built using TSMC’s 2nm process.
Apple’s privacy strategy begins with processing as much information as possible directly on the iPhone. The company says on-device processing lets Apple Intelligence work with personal information without collecting it.
This approach could become increasingly important with the iPhone 18 Pro as AI features become more deeply integrated into everyday tasks. Messages, personal information, and other sensitive data can be processed on the device when sufficient computing power is available.
For more complex requests, Apple Intelligence can turn to Private Cloud Compute, or PCC. Apple says only the data needed to fulfill a particular request is sent to its Apple silicon-based servers. The information is processed and then removed rather than being stored.

Private Cloud Compute could be one of Apple’s strongest privacy arguments against Android flagships. Apple says that user data sent to PCC is used exclusively to fulfill the request and is not accessible to Apple.
The system also uses hardware security technologies including Secure Enclave and Secure Boot. Apple says these technologies help establish a hardware root of trust and ensure that only approved and verified software runs on PCC servers.
Apple has also built a transparency system around PCC. Security researchers can inspect production software images, while the company publishes measurements in an append-only transparency log. Devices are designed to send requests only to servers that can cryptographically verify their software configuration.
That level of publicly verifiable cloud-AI security is a key part of Apple’s privacy pitch.
However, the iPhone 18 Pro will not compete with Android's weak privacy protections. Samsung’s Galaxy S26 Ultra, for example, features a built-in Privacy Display that limits what people viewing the screen from the side can see. Users can configure it for specific apps, notifications, and sensitive situations such as entering passwords.
Android also offers security-focused alternatives such as hardened operating systems and manufacturer-specific security platforms. This means the comparison is not simply between a secure iPhone and insecure Android phones.

Apple’s potential advantage with the iPhone 18 Pro may ultimately come from how tightly its hardware, software, and AI systems work together. The company is also expanding Private Cloud Compute beyond its own data centers.
In June 2026, Apple announced collaborations with Google and NVIDIA to run new Apple Intelligence workloads on Google Cloud and to extend its PCC privacy commitments to third-party data centers.
As smartphones increasingly handle private conversations, photographs, financial information and AI-assisted tasks, the ability to process that information without unnecessarily exposing it could become a major selling point.
The iPhone 18 Pro’s privacy advantage, therefore, may not rest on one new security feature. Instead, Apple’s combination of on-device AI, hardware-based security, encrypted cloud processing, and independently verifiable Private Cloud Compute could give it a distinctive position relative to Android flagships.
At the same time, Apple has yet to officially reveal the complete iPhone 18 Pro feature set, so its final privacy and security capabilities will only become clear at launch.
