Google’s Bard AI Chatbot Will Soon Be Called Gemini

Google's AI chatbot Bard has rebranded itself as Gemini highlighting its advanced capabilities

Google's Bard AI Chatbot can produce text and visuals in response to questions in natural language. The large language model (LLM) Gemini from Google serves as its foundation; it is capable of handling intricate activities including coding, deductive reasoning, and creative teamwork. In November 2023, Google's Bard was introduced as a web-based application that enables people to communicate with Gemini and discover its possibilities.

Gemini is used by other products besides Bard, though. To improve the features and functionality of its other services, like YouTube, Gmail, and Maps, Google has started integrating Gemini into them. Gemini may be used, for instance, to create email composition in Gmail, to obtain directions in Maps, and to create thumbnails and subtitles for videos on YouTube.

Google has opted to rename Bard AI Chatbot as Gemini to reflect this integration and prevent misunderstanding, according to a leaked changelog that developer Dylan Roussel released on X (previously Twitter). The changelog, dated February 7, 2024, notes that "Bard is now Gemini" and provides an explanation for the renaming decision. It also discloses a few more changes and additions that Google has in store for Gemini.

The introduction of Gemini Advanced, a premium membership level that grants users access to Gemini Ultra, the most potent and capable version of Gemini, is one of the most significant changes. Gemini Ultra is capable of handling extremely difficult and sophisticated tasks including deep analysis, multi-modal creation, and advanced coding. English-language users will be able to access Gemini Advanced in more than 150 countries.

A further update is that Gemini is now available in Canada, the first country in which the service has been made available since its original introduction. Gemini will be available to Canadian users for use in learning, writing, and planning, among other things.

In addition, Google is developing a Gemini app just for Android smartphones, which will let users utilize Google AI for a variety of purposes on their phones. To offer a smooth and practical experience, the app will also integrate with other Google services, like YouTube, Gmail, and Maps.

Although the changelog indicates that the changes and rebranding will soon be available, Google has not formally acknowledged this. It is anticipated that Google's Gemini will face competition from other AI chatbots on the market, like Microsoft's Copilot and OpenAI's ChatGPT, all of which create text and pictures using huge language models. However, in terms of size, speed, and quality, Google's Gemini has a competitive advantage over its rivals.
