AMD has unveiled its new Ryzen Z2 series that will feature three new processors for handheld gaming. The new Ryzen Z2 series of APUs will bring powerful gaming experiences to handheld gaming devices. The chip will be launched in Quarter 1 of 2025 and will power gaming handhelds like Lenovo Legion Go, the upcoming Asus ROG Ally models, and most likely the Steam Deck 2 with the best pc games.
The new Ryzen will include three models namely, Ryzen Z2 Extreme, Ryzen Z2, and Ryzen Z2 Go. These models cater to deliver a power-packed performance for portable gaming.
1. Ryzen Z2 Extreme- 8 cores, 16 threads, 16 graphics cores, 5 GHz max clock speed.
2. Ryzen Z2- 8 Cores, 16 threads, 12 graphics cores, 5.1 GHz max clock speed.
3. Ryzen Z2 Go- 4 cores, 8 threads, 12 graphics cores, 4.3 GHz max clock speed.
The chipset will provide improved efficiency as it is built on AMD’s RDNA 3.5 architecture and will also provide a boost to the battery life in handheld gaming devices. The Z2 Extreme runs between 15-35W while the other two chipsets from the series are more energy efficient at 15-30W. Also, the chipset promises enhanced gameplay with powerful graphics.
These chipsets will be the future of handheld gaming by providing a perfect PC gaming experience to fans of portable gaming. Thus, the Steam Deck 2, Asus ROG Ally, or Lenono Legion Go might have a huge impact on their sale because of the launch of this new processor series.
It is expected that competitors like Intel may stick to their Core Ultra 7 Processors, AMD’s Ryzen Z2 series will be expected to dominate the handheld gaming space in future because of its perfect balance of performance, efficiency in gameplay, and graphics. With this new launch, it is evident that 2025 will be a big year for gaming, especially for handheld gamers as new and exciting devices and chipsets are taking gaming to a new level.
