Samsung India’s head of public affairs and ESG, Rajiv Aggarwal, resigned from the company after nearly four years in the role. According to two people familiar with the development. Aggarwal is currently serving his final week at Samsung India.

The reason behind his resignation remains unclear. Aggarwal, 57, did not comment on the development, while Samsung Electronics did not respond to Reuters’ queries.

Aggarwal Led  Samsung’s Government Relations

Aggarwal played a key role in managing Samsung’s relationship with the Indian government. His responsibilities covered public affairs as well as environmental, social and governance matters.

Before joining Samsung, Aggarwal held senior public policy roles at Meta and Uber. He joined Samsung in December 2022 after serving as Meta’s India public policy chief. His earlier career included a stint in the Indian bureaucracy.

His exit marks a significant change for Samsung’s public policy function at a time when technology companies face closer regulatory scrutiny in India.

Samsung Faces Regulatory Pressure

Samsung and other smartphone makers have recently faced policy demands from the Indian government. The company, along with Apple, opposed proposals requiring smartphones to come with state-run applications pre-installed, citing privacy concerns.

Samsung also challenged in court a government policy that raises the payments businesses must make to electronic-waste recyclers. These developments increased the importance of government and regulatory engagement for major technology companies operating in India.
