The Nintendo Switch 2 will officially launch on June 5. Pre-orders that started on April 24 are a challenge, as most retailers are already sold out. Nintendo has started sending out invites to select users, but supplies remain tight.

Currently, two versions of Switch 2 are available. The base Switch 2 console for $450 or a bundle with Mario Kart World for $500. You can only buy one console per invite. If you’re eager to get one, here’s everything you need to know about restocks and buying tips.

Nintendo Store Pre-Orders: Invite Only

Nintendo began sending Switch 2 pre-order invites on May 29. These emails were sent to individuals who registered early and met the priority criteria. If chosen, you have 72 hours to complete your purchase.

To qualify for early access, you must:

  • Be a paid Switch Online subscriber since April 2, 2025.

  • Have logged 50+ hours of gameplay.

  • Be at least 18 years old.

  • Have shared gameplay data with Nintendo.

  • Be the paying member of the account, not just part of a family plan.

If you signed up and meet these conditions, watch your inbox. If you haven’t received an invitation yet, you may still receive one later.

What If You Didn’t Get an Invite?

Retailers like Best Buy, Walmart, Target, and GameStop will have in-store stock on launch day, June 5. Some stores plan to open early to handle demand. If you missed the pre-order window, your best bet is to visit these stores in person on launch day.

All third-party retailers have sold out since pre-orders opened on April 24. GameStop briefly had stock later that morning, but it didn’t last. A few lucky customers found stock at Walmart until April 26, but that too dried up. Amazon, Costco, and Sam’s Club haven’t made Switch 2 available yet. Even the older Switch models are limited on Amazon US.
