Huawei has announced the global launch of the Mate XT Ultimate. This is the first and only trifold smartphone. The device is now reaching select international markets after being originally introduced in China in September 2024. Thanks to its innovative dual-hinge design and advanced specifications, it happens to be one of the most sophisticated foldable mobile phones.

Unique Trifold Design

The phone has a screen with two hinges that folds, which means that the display has three different possible ways to be positioned. When closed, it functions as a 6.4 inch smartphone. When it is partially unfolded, it expands to a 7.9 inch display. While fully opened, it transforms into a 10.2 inch tablet. At just 3.6mm thick when unfolded, it is even thinner than some of the latest foldable devices on the market.

Hardware and Performance

The device is equipped with a 5,600mAh battery and supports both wired and wireless charging. The rear camera system includes a 50-megapixel main sensor, a 12-megapixel ultrawide lens and a periscope shooter, therefore providing high-quality photography. The phone is available in a single configuration featuring 16GB of RAM and 1TB of storage.

Software Limitations

As impressive as the Mate XT Ultimate hardware is, it does not offer support for any Google services, including the Play Store. It uses EMUI software instead of the recently launched HarmonyOS Next system. This may pose a challenge in markets where Google apps are mandatory.

Availability and Pricing

The Mate XT Ultimate is priced at €3,499 (approximately $3,660). The launch is confirmed for Malaysia, Indonesia, the Philippines, UAE, Saudi Arabia and Mexico. However, it will not be available in the UK or US for now. Further expansion is planned in the rest of the markets soon.

Additional Product Launches

Alongside the Mate XT Ultimate, Huawei introduced the FreeArc open-ear earbuds, the Band 10 fitness tracker and the MatePad Pro 13.2 tablet with a matte OLED display.
