Operation Strix remains the most high-stakes mission
Yor and Loid face deadly threats beyond espionage
Anya proves brave even in life-threatening situations
In the world of espionage, where danger lurks around every corner, but in Spy x Family, also at home. The hit manga and anime series by Tatsuya Endo combines action, political intrigue, and warm family dynamics through the lives of the Forger clan.
Loid Forger (alias Twilight), a professional spy; Yor Forger, a top-tier assassin; and their adopted daughter Anya, a telepath, aren’t merely living a lie for the sake of national harmony. They’re constantly walking tightropes of deadly missions that test their bodies and minds.
With every arc upping the ante, we count down the Forger family’s most dangerous missions, with consideration to their complexity, danger level, and psychological strain.
This extended undercover operation is the linchpin of Spy x Family. Operation Strix assigns Loid Forger, codename Twilight, to infiltrate upper society by creating a pretend family to infiltrate Donovan Desmond, the reclusive leader of the National Unity Party. Although it appears to be a slow burn relative to combat-oriented arcs, its stakes are colossal. One misstep could ignite a war between Westalis and Ostania.
Loid has to constantly navigate his cover life, intel assignments, and family life, all while training a child who can silently read his mind. The fate of worldwide peace hangs in the balance on this tapestry of lies, and Operation Strix is the most regularly perilous and high-pressure operation in the series.
Yor’s covert assignment while on a family holiday on an upscale cruise ship becomes a gruesome, high-speed battle. Charged with guarding a mother and child from a ruthless gang of assassins, Yor has to play the role of benevolent wife while fighting off attackers in cramped ship corridors and public areas. Complicating matters? Anya stows away on board and gets caught up in the action, and Yor finds herself having to guard both her ward and her assignment.
The mission highlights Yor’s deadly abilities and motherly nature, but it also reveals the ever-present danger to the safety of the family. The proximity and limited exit routes heighten the tension, and this is one of the most suspenseful and emotionally intense arcs.
Anya’s school day becomes a living nightmare when an extremist terrorist organization, the Red Circus, takes over their bus. Armed militants, political agendas, and hostages, suspense meshes with actual terrorism tactics. As young as she is, Anya utilizes her telepathic abilities and quick wit to remain calm even as her parents work behind the scenes to save her.
This arc is significant not only for the physical risk but for the way it leaves Anya’s life in the hands of political extremists, demonstrating that even the youngest Forger is never really safe.

Loid’s single-operative chops are tested when he infiltrates a highly secured mansion belonging to a black-market arms seller. The mission has all the classic spy fare, cunningly concealed cameras, laser beams triggered by tripwires, and death-defying double-crosses.
Death can happen with the slightest error, but Loid handles it with his characteristic finesse and icy calm. It is a reminder of how years of frontline experience and psychological acumen make Twilight Westalis’s most lethal resource.
After Loid is able to arrange a meeting with Donovan Desmond disguised as a parent-teacher meeting, the experience is filled with unspoken tension. Desmond is moody, capricious, and extremely guarded. One misstep in words or expression, and the mission will fail, and Loid’s cover will be blown.
It’s not a fast-paced scene, but the psychological tension and the geopolitical investment make it one of the most perilous scenes in the series. Diplomacy and duplicity are the name of the game.
Yor, playing the role of Thorn Princess, is dispatched to take out a target who is guarded by top-tier mercenaries. The mission turns into a savage firefight that pushes her physical envelope. While she’s generally reserved and accident-prone at home, viewers are reminded of how lethal she is in the field with this mission.
Her emotional reserve and combat tactics make this mission an acting masterclass in unspoken survivalism, and expose the duality of her life as mother and killer.
When Anya is kidnapped by the criminals who want to use her to control Loid, it becomes a matter of timing. Both Loid and Yor drop their covers to find her, demonstrating the emotional connection that has developed even if their setup has been ‘fake.’
The series keeps reminding the viewer that the Forgers may be masters of deception, but the feelings they have for one another are real, and if threatened, they become unbeatable.
Flashbacks to his previous missions have him moving through literal war zones in the Middle East. His tales expose the harshness of his work and the psychological cost it exacts. He’s not just battling enemies, he’s battling for a world in which children won’t have to grow up as he did.
These missions disclose his past and give us a better sense of what compels him beyond duty.
Loid’s attempt to prevent a scientist from creating a biological weapon showcases the possible extent of devastation that covert intelligence tends to handle. There is no glamour here, only a stark reflection of what goes wrong when information goes to the wrong people.
It is a reminder of the unseen wars being fought in silence.
In an action sequence reminiscent of a spy thriller, Loid and Yor find themselves cornered on a high-speed train hijacked by terrorists. They move in perfect sync, covering combat and crowd control.
It’s an on-screen mission that highlights their partnership and mutual understanding.
In Spy x Family, it’s not only about spy tools or assassinations, it’s about navigating trust, identity, and connection in a world where deception is the currency. Each perilous mission opens up more about the characters’ weaknesses, values, and development.
As stakes get higher and secrets run deeper, the Forgers teach us that even among the shadows of espionage, love and loyalty remain the ultimate weapons.
