Spotify's Sound Upgrade: HiFi Audio Launching in 2025
After almost four years, Spotify may finally be launching its highly anticipated HiFi audio streaming service. This would put them in direct competition with their rivals, such as Amazon Music and Apple Music, according to a report from Bloomberg. While Spotify is reportedly finalizing the details, the new subscription tier could cost an extra $6 per month, bringing the total monthly cost to $18.
Spotify's HD audio streaming service might be called "Music Pro" and could be offered as an add-on to the current premium tier, which costs $11.99. This differs from platforms like Apple Music, which include HD music streaming for all subscribers at no extra charge.
Spotify HiFi Audio Quality
Spotify HiFi promises CD-quality lossless audio, a significant upgrade from its current 320kbps offering. This should bring it in line with Tidal and Deezer, and potentially even Apple Digital Masters (though that's less certain). Lossless audio preserves more detail, revealing nuances in music lost in compressed formats, resulting in a richer, more immersive listening experience, especially when using high-quality headphones or speakers. While streaming over a network or using Spotify Connect is ideal, Bluetooth may diminish the quality.
Spotify HiFi Exclusive Perks and Songs
Spotify's upcoming HiFi tier, potentially called "Music Pro," will reportedly use AI for features like song mixing. This service is rumored to include collaborations with promoters and ticket sellers. However, the HiFi song catalog remains a key question. The availability of HiFi tracks within Spotify's 100+ million song catalog remains unclear. While millions of songs, particularly popular hits from major labels, are expected to be included, music from smaller labels and older releases may not make the cut.
Until Spotify clarifies its HiFi catalog, holding onto your CD collection might be wise. Recent deals with major music publishers like Warner Music Group and Universal Music Group suggest Spotify has secured the necessary rights for high-quality music streaming.
Spotify HiFi, now possibly "Spotify Music Pro," is rumored for a late 2025 release, per Bloomberg. Delayed for years due to licensing and Spotify's focus on other features, the HiFi tier promises lossless audio, remixing tools (including AI), and concert ticket perks. While a 2021 launch was initially planned, it appears late 2025 is the target, though still unconfirmed.
