The XRP Ledger (XRPL) is strengthening its institutional infrastructure with a proposed privacy feature designed for tokenized financial assets. XRPL version 3.3.0 introduces six amendments, led by Confidential Transfers, as the network attempts to make public blockchain settlement more practical for funds, bonds and other institutional assets.
Confidential Transfers is designed for XRPL's Multi-Purpose Tokens (MPTs), a token standard aimed at institutional financial instruments. The feature would allow transaction amounts and token balances to remain encrypted while keeping account identities and token types visible on the ledger.
This addresses a major concern for financial institutions. Public blockchains provide transparency, but asset managers may not want competitors or other market participants to see the exact size of their positions and transfers.
According to CoinDesk, the technology uses cryptography that allows XRPL to confirm a transaction is valid without exposing the underlying amounts.
The initial implementation remains limited. Users must opt into Confidential Transfers, and the feature applies to direct MPT payments. It does not currently extend to XRPL's decentralized exchange, escrow transactions or checks.
The privacy upgrade arrives as institutional assets on XRPL continue to expand. According to RWA.xyz data cited in the supplied reporting, approximately $1.38 billion in distributed real-world assets is tracked on the network.
RLUSD accounts for about $845.7 million, while Ondo represents another $212.6 million. VERT Capital has approximately $116.1 million, Archax accounts for $55.4 million, and Societe Generale has around $11.6 million.
Excluding RLUSD, that leaves more than $530 million in tracked tokenized assets, giving the proposed institutional features an existing market to serve.
Aviva Investors has also launched a tokenized share class of its US Dollar Liquidity Fund on XRPL, adding another traditional finance name to the ecosystem.

Privacy is only one component of the upgrade. Batch would allow as many as eight transactions to be grouped together, including an all-or-nothing execution option.
Sponsor allows one account to cover another user's fees and reserve requirements, while Permission Delegation enables limited transaction authority without surrendering full account control. Dynamic MPT gives issuers additional flexibility to modify certain token properties after issuance.
According to XRP Ledger Operations, version 3.3.0 also reduces memory usage by at least 10%-15% while improving node synchronization.
Why this Matters?
When institutions try to adopt tokenized assets, it depends on balancing blockchain transparency with financial privacy. With Confidential Transfers, XRPL could bridge that gap, while backing over $530 million in tokenized assets that already exist. Broader adoption could strengthen XRPL’s position as infrastructure for institutional on-chain finance
None of these amendments are active yet. XRPL requires at least 80% validator support maintained continuously for two weeks before an amendment can activate.
The bigger test will come afterward. If institutions already tokenizing assets on XRPL adopt Confidential Transfers, privacy could become an important part of the ledger's institutional settlement proposition. If adoption remains limited, the upgrade may prove technically significant without materially changing how Wall Street assets move on-chain.
1. What are Confidential Transfers on the XRP Ledger?
Confidential Transfers is a proposed XRPL feature that encrypts token balances and payment amounts while keeping accounts and token types visible. It is primarily designed for institutional Multi-Purpose Tokens.
2. How many tokenized real-world assets are currently on XRPL
According to RWA.xyz data cited in the reporting, XRPL tracks approximately $1.38 billion in distributed real-world assets. Excluding $845.7 million in RLUSD, more than $530 million remains in other tokenized assets.
3. Are Confidential Transfers already available on XRP Ledger?
No. Confidential Transfers is among the amendments proposed with XRPL version 3.3.0. An amendment needs at least 80% validator support continuously for two weeks before activation.
4. Which institutions have tokenized assets on XRP Ledger?
The XRPL ecosystem includes tokenized assets associated with names such as Ondo, VERT Capital, Archax and Societe Generale. Aviva InvestorWhy this Matters? s has also launched a tokenized share class on XRPL.
5. Why does privacy matter for institutional tokenized assets?
Financial institutions may not want their exact balances and transaction sizes publicly visible to competitors. Confidential Transfers could provide transaction privacy while preserving blockchain-based verification and settlement.
