The crypto market saw major developments as Ethereum exchange reserves declined to a multi-year low, while Liquid received 3,400 BTC. Also, Visa stablecoin transactions reached USD 20 billion, and Fractal BTC Cuts Block Reward to 6.25 FB.

Ethereum Exchange Reserves Fall

As Ethereum (ETH) price continued to strengthen against Bitcoin (BTC) over the past two months through September 8, 2026, the altcoin’s supply on all cryptocurrency exchanges has fallen to a fresh multi-year low.

As of Tuesday, the supply of Ethereum on all crypto exchanges was at 14,882,226.7 ETH, according to CryptoQuant.

The supply of Ethereum on all exchanges has been on a gradual decline since July 1, 2025, when it was at around 21,301,177.2 ETH. Around 6,418,950.5 ETH have been withdrawn from all crypto exchanges over the past 14 months.

The exchanges’ reserves for Ethereum have dropped to a fresh multi-year low as the altcoin’s supply on Binance slipped to approximately 3.74 million ETH, marking its lowest level in three months.

Liquid Recovers 3,400 BTC

Bitcoin's Liquid sidechain received 3,400 BTC back in its federation wallet on September 7 after a reserve drain.

The partial recovery restores assets behind L-BTC, its Bitcoin-linked token, while withdrawal access remains unconfirmed and public bridge nodes are still listed as experiencing a major outage.

The transaction was confirmed in Bitcoin block 965950. On September 8, Blockstream’s status page still listed an active Liquid security incident and a major outage affecting public bridge nodes.

Before the repayment, the self-described white-hat hackers wrote in an on-chain message that they were ‘sending most back’ to Liquid’s federation address, asking, ‘Is that ok?’

Visa Stablecoin Settlement Hits USD 20 Billion

Visa’s stablecoin settlement volume has surpassed a USD 20 billion annualized run rate, up more than 15 times year over year, as stablecoin-linked card programs expand across its network.

More than 160 stablecoin-linked card programs were live globally in Visa’s fiscal second quarter, while payment volume on those programs increased nearly 200% from a year earlier, Visa said on Tuesday.

The growth is creating a working-capital requirement for card issuers, which must fund daily settlement obligations before collecting payments from cardholders, Visa said, adding that some early-stage programs need only a few million dollars and settle every day, making traditional warehouse facilities less economical.

Ethereum's Hegota Upgrade

This Monday, the Ethereum Foundation protocol team published its first unified technical priority list for the Ethereum Hegota upgrade, classifying a total of 62 Ethereum Improvement Proposals (EIPs). Around 60 researchers and engineers divided across 9 teams took part in the evaluation.

From this process, proposal EIP-7805, known as FOCIL (Fork-Choice Inclusion Lists), emerged as the only one to achieve a unanimous ‘S’ rating, the highest tier of commitment for mandatory deployment.

This consensus marks a milestone in the network’s technical governance, as FOCIL will allow users to guarantee the inclusion of valid transactions without relying on centralized block builders, mitigating critical censorship risks at the consensus layer.

Additionally, Hegota’s technical selection lays the architectural groundwork for the foundation’s long-term goals, prominently featuring native private transaction integration and preparation for quantum resistance by late 2029.

Fractal BTC Cuts Block Reward

Fractal Bitcoin said in a September 8 post on X that the halving had been completed successfully, with network nodes and indexing services operating normally during the first 10 minutes after activation.

The milestone activated FIP-102, a consensus upgrade that changes how future FB emissions are distributed while preparing the token for distribution on Bitcoin

The proposal does not raise FB’s total supply or create a separate supply for tokens distributed through Bitcoin.

Under FIP-102, Fractal’s first scheduled halving reduced the block reward from 25 FB to 12.5 FB. The proposal simultaneously brought forward the network’s second halving, cutting the reward available on Fractal again to 6.25 FB.
