Noida-based astrology and spiritual-tech platform Astrotalk has entered India’s unicorn club after completing an employee stock option buyback that valued the company at $1 billion, or roughly Rs. 9,500 crore.
The transaction involved more than 100 employees and was funded entirely from profits generated by the business rather than from a fresh external funding round. Astrotalk has not disclosed the total size of the ESOP liquidity programme.
The latest valuation marks a major increase from Astrotalk’s previous funding round. According to reports, the company was valued at around Rs. 2,400 crore in June 2024.
That means its valuation has increased nearly fourfold in about two years, supported by rising revenue and profitability.
Astrotalk reported revenue of Rs. 1,176 crore in FY25 and profit before tax of Rs. 285 crore. The company also said its current annualized revenue run rate has crossed Rs. 2,500 crore.
“Over the years, Astrotalk has focused on building a profitable and sustainable business. The fact that we are able to undertake this ESOP buyback using the profits generated by the company makes this milestone especially rewarding,” co-founder and CEO Puneet Gupta said.

Unlike a typical unicorn funding announcement, Astrotalk’s $1 billion valuation was established through an internal liquidity event rather than a new equity raise.
The ESOP buyback gave employees holding vested stock options an opportunity to convert part of their ownership into cash.
Co-founder Anmol Jain said the programme reflects the company’s focus on creating an ownership culture and rewarding employees for their contribution to its growth.
Astrotalk is backed by Left Lane Capital and Elev8 Venture Partners. Left Lane Capital invested $20 million in the company in February 2024 and followed that with another $14 million investment in June 2024.
Founded in 2017, Astrotalk initially focused on connecting users with astrologers through its online platform. It has since expanded into broader spiritual and commerce-related categories.
Astrotalk now plans to invest further in technology, talent and international expansion as it looks to strengthen its position in the spiritual-tech market.
The unicorn milestone also highlights a different startup growth model. Instead of depending solely on repeated funding rounds, Astrotalk has reached a $1 billion valuation while emphasizing profitability and using internally generated cash to provide employee liquidity.
