Motorola’s foldable phones could get a new privacy option in 2027. The GrapheneOS Foundation announced plans to bring its software to selected Motorola devices. Up to this point, the privacy-focused open-source Android operating system was part of Google Pixel series devices. The reports say that support for a Motorola flagship will begin at the start of next year, and then other flagship models will join. Razr Fold and Razr Ultra are expected to be part of the expansion.

The move could give Motorola users more control over their phones. GrapheneOS is based on Android but puts privacy and security first. Google apps are not installed by default. Users can still add Google services if they need them. Most Android apps should also work, although some apps may need Google services to run properly.

Privacy is the main reason to consider GrapheneOS. The software gives users more control over app permissions. It also limits what apps can access in the background. Regular security updates are another key part of the system.

For Razr Fold users, this could offer a different Android experience. People who rely heavily on Google apps may need some extra setup. A few apps may also work differently without Google's services. GrapheneOS support for Motorola would be a big change. The software has mainly focused on Pixel phones because of their security features and update support.

The Foundation has said current Motorola hardware does not meet all its requirements. Newer models could solve some of those issues. If the plan moves ahead, Razr Fold owners could get something rare. They could choose a foldable phone that offers more privacy without giving up the flexibility of Android apps.
