Google has confirmed that Android Quick Share will expand its AirDrop-style sharing with iPhones to more Android phones in 2026. The feature currently works on the Pixel 10 family and Google now plans wider support through Android hardware partners.

The update aims to reduce friction when people need to share files between Android and iPhone nearby. It also supports mixed-device households and workplaces that often rely on apps or cables for quick transfers.

Quick Share AirDrop-Style Sharing Expands Beyond Pixel 10

Google enabled Quick Share interoperability with Apple AirDrop on the Pixel 10 family in November 2025. The company said Android and iPhone users can share files directly, without sending data through a server.

At a recent press briefing, Eric Kay, Google’s vice president of engineering for Android, said Google has “validated this functionality” on Pixel. He added that Google is working with partners to extend it across more Android devices. Google has not named the first brands or a precise rollout date.

How Quick Share to iPhone File Transfer Works

Quick Share uses a nearby, local connection to move files such as photos, videos, and documents. Google describes the transfer as direct and encrypted, which helps protect content during sharing. It also avoids the quality loss that can happen with some messaging apps.

Apple users will still control discoverability on their devices during transfers. Google’s earlier announcement said Apple devices must allow nearby discovery for Quick Share to find them. That step matters because it keeps sharing intentionally in busy public spaces.

Google Improves iPhone-to-Android Switching and Data Migration

Google says it is also improving the iPhone-to-Android switching experience. Kay pointed to issues that can affect migrations, including missing data, incomplete transfers, and broken message histories. Google says it is working to reduce these problems.

The company frames both efforts as part of a broader push for cross-platform compatibility. Google has already supported larger interoperability moves in recent years, and it now targets practical pain points that users report during device changes. Google expects to share more details about Quick Share expansion and switching improvements in the coming months.
