Apple has introduced new health features in Apple Watch and AirPods Pro, adding sleep apnea alerts and hearing assistance tools as it expands its presence in digital healthcare. The updates aim to help users identify health issues earlier through everyday devices.
Apple Watch can now detect signs linked to sleep apnea, a condition where breathing repeatedly stops during sleep. The feature tracks ‘breathing disturbances’ overnight using sensors and motion data collected by the watch.
If the system detects repeated irregular patterns over several nights, users receive a notification recommending medical consultation. Apple has also added sleep reports that users can download and share with doctors. Sleep apnea often remains undiagnosed for years.
Doctors say untreated cases can increase the risk of heart disease, high blood pressure, fatigue, and other health problems. The company said the feature was developed using machine learning and clinical research data.
Apple has also introduced a hearing health system for AirPods Pro users. The update includes a built-in hearing test that users can complete at home in around five minutes using an iPhone or iPad. Based on the results, AirPods Pro creates a personalised hearing profile.
The new Hearing Aid mode adjusts external sound levels in real time to improve conversations and everyday listening for users with mild to moderate hearing loss. Another feature, Loud Sound Reduction, lowers exposure to harsh environmental noise while keeping audio clear.
Apple says the tools are designed to make hearing support easier to access without separate medical hardware for every user.

Apple has steadily expanded health tracking features across its products over the last few years. Apple Watch already supports ECG monitoring, irregular heart rhythm alerts, fall detection, and blood oxygen tracking in several markets.
The latest additions show how wearable devices are moving beyond fitness tracking into preventive healthcare. Apple has clarified that the features are not meant to replace professional diagnosis or treatment.
The company says the goal is to help users notice possible warning signs earlier and seek medical advice when needed. With sleep tracking, hearing support, and heart monitoring now built into consumer devices, Apple is positioning its wearables as part of everyday healthcare.
