US Stock Futures Rise as Bitcoin Lifts Crypto Stocks, S&P 500 Eyes Weekly Loss

US stock market futures rose as Wall Street attempted to recover from a yield-driven sell-off. The S&P 500 still faced its first weekly loss since July, while Bitcoin neared $80,000 and lifted crypto stocks. Treasury yields stayed near multi-year highs as investors tracked oil prices and geopolitical tensions.

US stock futures rose Friday as Wall Street attempted to recover from Thursday’s yield-driven sell-off. Dow futures gained about 0.7%, while S&P 500 futures rose 0.5%. Nasdaq 100 futures advanced 0.8% before the opening bell.

Even with the early rebound, major indexes stayed on course for weekly losses. Rising Treasury yields, higher oil prices and tensions between Washington and Tehran continued to limit risk appetite. Meanwhile, Bitcoin headed for a weekly gain near 20%.

US Stock Market Futures Recover After Sell-Off

The S&P 500 and NASDAQ Composite lost 0.9% and 1%, respectively, on Thursday. Those declines left the S&P 500 down 1.9% for the week. The Nasdaq stood 2.5% lower and risked ending a three-week winning streak.

The Dow Jones Industrial Average also faced a weekly decline of about 1.8%. Premarket trading showed a partial recovery, with Alphabet rising 0.6% and Tesla adding 1.2%. European markets also edged higher, while Asian indexes produced mixed results.

Treasury Yields Stay Near Multi-Year Highs

Long-term Treasury yields held near recent peaks despite the government’s expanded bond-buyback plan. The 30-year yield traded around 5.25%, while the 10-year yield stayed near 4.7%. The 30-year yield reached its highest level since 2007 earlier this week.

Treasury Secretary Scott Bessent said the department had a ‘big toolkit’ for the market. He also said officials could expand repurchases further. Yet yields showed little response while investors assessed federal borrowing, debt supply, oil-driven inflation and higher financing costs.

UBS investment chief Ulrike Hoffmann-Burchardi said Treasury buybacks must receive funding from other parts of the government’s program. She wrote that the action ‘reshapes the maturity profile’ instead of reducing the debt that investors must absorb.

Bitcoin Rally Lifts Crypto Stocks

Bitcoin traded between $77,000 and 79, 500 early Friday after starting the week around $62,837. The cryptocurrency briefly approached $80,000 and reached its highest level since late May. Its weekly advance stood near 23% as demand returned to the crypto market.

The rally followed President Donald Trump’s call for Congress to pass the CLARITY Act. The proposed measure seeks clearer federal oversight of crypto markets. Coinbase gained 4.5% in premarket trading, Robinhood rose 4.8%, and Strategy advanced 6.8%.

Oil and Gold Track Policy Risks

Oil prices moved slightly lower in early US trading but headed for a second consecutive weekly increase. Brent crude traded near $94 per barrel after closing above $93 on Thursday. West Texas Intermediate changed hands near $87.

Markets continued to track possible US sanctions on Iran and disruptions to Middle East oil flows. Bessent warned that any remaining economic link to Tehran could bring severe consequences. The standoff kept inflation concerns active while crude prices stayed elevated.

Gold futures reached a three-month high as the dollar weakened. December gold touched $4,569.40 per ounce and headed for a fifth straight weekly gain. The contract gained nearly 5% during the week after the Treasury’s buyback announcement initially pushed yields lower.

Ross Stores Leads Premarket Movers

Ross Stores climbed more than 8% after the retailer reported quarterly results above expectations. The company also raised its annual profit forecast and issued third-quarter earnings guidance that exceeded analysts’ estimates.

Meanwhile, BJ’s Wholesale moved slightly higher after reporting adjusted earnings of $1.36 per share on $6.09 billion in revenue. Analysts expected $1.17 per share and $5.97 billion in revenue. BJ’s also lifted its annual earnings forecast to between $4.60 and $4.80 per share.

Investors Watch NVIDIA and Fed Signals

Investors bought a net $11.72 billion of US equity funds through August 19, the strongest weekly inflow since July 29. Large-cap funds received $9.58 billion, while US bond funds attracted $9.92 billion.

Markets will next track August business activity data, inflation figures and Federal Reserve Chair Kevin Warsh’s Jackson Hole speech. NVIDIA’s quarterly report next week will also provide fresh data on artificial intelligence infrastructure demand and data-center spending.
