The Federal Reserve announces its decision at 2 p.m. ET, with Chair Kevin Warsh speaking at 2:30 p.m. Traders expect rates to stay at 3.75% to 4%, with only a small chance of a hike. Bitcoin trades near USD 80,847 ahead of the verdict.
Warsh's tone on a possible December hike matters more than the hold itself. The next policy meeting follows on December 8 and 9, so guidance carries real weight. Bitcoin and equities may react sharply to any hawkish signal.
A large batch of Bitcoin options contracts worth more than USD 11 billion expires on Deribit this Friday. Traders often adjust positions around such expiries, which can stretch intraday ranges. Fed guidance today may therefore shape positioning into Friday.
Bitcoin has traded inside a tight range for almost a month. A decisive move beyond USD 81,000 or below USD 79,000 would likely end that compression. The USD 82,000 level remains the line bulls need to reclaim for a stronger recovery.
Microsoft, Alphabet, Amazon and Intel report earnings this week, with AI valuation worries already weighing on risk assets. China's STAR50 index fell 4.8%, while the Nasdaq added 1.18% on Tuesday, according to Mudrex and WazirX. Crypto has stayed resilient so far.
Third-quarter GDP and PCE inflation data follow on Thursday, October 29. Stronger growth could reinforce the Fed's cautious stance. Softer figures may ease hike fears and support Bitcoin above USD 80,000. Elevated bond yields also limit confidence in a sustained crypto recovery.
US spot Bitcoin ETFs attracted USD 110.34 million on Monday, ending two sessions of outflows worth USD 773.4 million. BlackRock's IBIT supplied the entire inflow. None of the other eleven funds recorded net buying on the day.
Ethereum ETFs lost USD 88.58 million on the same day, led by USD 104.71 million of outflows from BlackRock's ETHA. October redemptions now exceed USD 1.1 billion, the heaviest monthly exit this year. Ethereum trades at USD 2,353.15, up 1.8%.
Strategy bought no Bitcoin last week, according to its Monday SEC filing. It spent USD 204.9 million repurchasing 2.07 million STRC preferred shares. Its holdings remain at 848,517 BTC, acquired at an average price of USD 75,446 per coin.
The buybacks cut its USD cash balance by 46% to USD 242.4 million. Since October began, Strategy spent about USD 664 million on STRC repurchases, against USD 72.3 million on Bitcoin. Bitcoin trades above that cost basis today.
