Primebook, India’s pioneering Android laptop maker, says Google’s plan to bring Android to PCs by 2026 affirms the direction the company committed to seven years ago. At the Qualcomm Snapdragon Summit, Google announced that it will merge ChromeOS with Android to create a desktop-ready experience, signalling a shift that could take Android laptops into the mainstream.
For Primebook, the announcement signals how the space it has long focused on is now moving into the global spotlight. Since 2018, the company has reimagined Android for the laptop form factor, developed the PrimeOS operating system first, and then built devices around it. Today, Primebook laptops are already in the hands of 100,000+ students, freelancers, and professionals across Asia and Africa, markets where affordability and accessibility shape technology adoption.
Commenting on the development, Chitranshu Mahant, Co-Founder & CEO; CEO of Primebook, said: “This is a very positive development for us. At Primebook, we have been working on Android-based laptops for years and are currently the only brand that has built this category from the ground up. If Google follows its typical Android distribution strategy, we anticipate many local Indian players entering the market within the next two to three years. This is not only going to expand the market size but also fully establish Android laptops as a mainstream category. Our focus now is to stay ahead through technology innovation, ecosystem partnerships, and strong brand values - to capture maximum share.”
As the global conversation around Android PCs accelerates, Primebook’s journey demonstrates that the category is not just about hardware. By building India’s first full-stack Android laptop ecosystem, Primebook has redefined what accessible yet advanced computing can mean, with PrimeOS at its core, and features like Cloud PC, a curated app store, in-built AI, and more.
Google’s entry is set to expand the category worldwide. Primebook sees this as the right moment to scale its vision, ensuring Android laptops are not only cost-effective but also powerful, intuitive, and ready for the future of work and learning.
