No separate application category exists for e-Passports.
Where to Start the Application: Applicants must apply online through the official Passport Seva portal. New users register with basic details, while existing users log in directly. Filling the Application Form: Choose “Fresh Passport” or “Reissue Passport” and complete the online form carefully. Enter personal details, address history, and identification information without errors. Select a Passport Seva Kendra or Post Office Passport Seva Kendra for your visit. Inaccurate entries often delay verification and police clearance.
Documents and Fee Payment: Applicants submit proof of identity, address, and date of birth. Aadhaar, voter ID, utility bills, and birth certificates remain commonly accepted. DigiLocker documents also work. After submission, applicants pay fees online via UPI, cards, or net banking. Fee amounts depend on validity period and booklet size.
Appointment and Biometric Capture: Applicants must visit the selected PSK or POPSK on the appointment date. Officials verify original documents and capture fingerprints, photograph, and facial data. This biometric capture enables the embedded chip to function. Applicants should arrive on time, carry originals, and avoid rescheduling to prevent processing delays.
Police Verification and Delivery: Most applicants undergo police verification, either before or after PSK processing. Once verification clears, authorities print the e-Passport and dispatch it by speed post. Applicants can track progress online using the application reference number. Delivery timelines vary by location but usually match standard passport issuance periods.
