Zomato on Monday announced that it had laid off around 250 employees in Hyderabad after the food delivery company shut its customer support centre. The decision followed a six month review of customer support operations and organizational requirements. Zomato shifted more support work toward external partners while consolidating remaining in-house operations at Gurugram.

The Hyderabad shutdown formed part of Zomato's broader restructuring as customer support moved closer to product, technology, analytics, and business teams. Employees learned about the decision on Monday, while the company focused on improving operational efficiency through outsourcing and consolidation.

Affected employees received their August salary along with four months of compensation under the reported exit package. The compensation included contractual notice pay and a one time ex gratia payment. Medical insurance and counselling support continued until March 31, 2027.

The latest Zomato layoffs followed another workforce reduction in April 2025, when around 500 junior-level employees lost their jobs. The latest move also reflected a wider shift among consumer internet companies toward outsourced and automated customer support.

The restructuring placed Hyderabad's customer support workforce under fresh pressure as routine service roles increasingly moved outside company teams. Zomato's consolidation instead concentrated in house support functions at the Gurugram headquarters.

Meanwhile, Zomato founder and former CEO Deepinder Goyal shared an update about Temple, his wearable technology project. Goyal said the device had become less than half its earlier size and described it as the smallest wearable by volume.

“Temple is now less than half the size of what you've seen so far,” Goyal wrote on X. He also said limited edition pre-orders would begin soon, with shipments expected before the end of 2026.
