Xiaomi 17 and 17 Ultra have launched globally, with the India debut set for March 11. The Xiaomi 17 series continues the brand’s push in the premium segment, which focuses on camera performance, large batteries, and flagship performance.

Xiaomi 17 Series Global Launch: What’s New

Xiaomi has introduced its latest flagship device, Xiaomi 17, at the company's launch event in Barcelona. Xiaomi 17 features a 6.3-inch 1.5K M10 12-bit OLED LPTO display. It has a 120Hz variable refresh rate with a peak brightness of 3500 nits. Its screen is protected by Xiaomi Shield Glass.

The device also has an IP68 rating for both dust and water resistance, which means that the device can be submerged in water for up to 30 minutes without damage.

Snapdragon 8 Elite Gen 5: Performance and Efficiency Gains

The device is powered by the octa-core Snapdragon 8 Elite Gen 5 processor with an Adreno 840 GPU. It is paired with up to 12GB of LPDDR5X RAM and up to 512GB of UFS 4.1 internal storage.

The smaller phone weighs just 191 grams, while the Ultra weighs around 219 grams.

Leica Camera System Explained

The smartphone features a Leica-tuned triple rear camera setup with a 50MP Light Fusion 950 primary shooter with Hyper OIS, a 50MP ultra-wide-angle lens, and a 50MP telephoto lens with 2.6x zoom and OIS. A 50MP front camera is available for selfies and video calls.

The rear camera can record videos at 8K, while the selfie shooter is capped at 4K 60fps video recording.

Xiaomi and Leica issued a statement announcing that their partnership has moved from “co-engineering to co-creation”. “We are glad to announce that Xiaomi and Leica have entered a new era in our partnership, moving from co-engineering to strategic co-creation. The strategic upgrade reflects our long-lasting shared pursuit of pure imagery that time can’t dim.”

Display, Battery and Software Features

The phone runs on Xiaomi HyperOS 3 based on Android 16. It packs a 6,330mAh battery with support for 100W wired fast charging, 50W wireless charging, magnetic charging, and 22.5W wired and wireless reverse charging.

The phone also supports Wi-Fi 7, Bluetooth 5.4, 5G, NFC, Dual SIM support, an infrared sensor, and an in-display ultrasonic fingerprint scanner.

It also features a stereo speaker setup with Dolby Atmos branding, Hi-Res audio support, and a 4-microphone array.

Xiaomi 17 India Launch Date and Pricing

Xiaomi 17’s price in India is not yet announced, but the phone is priced at €999 for the 12GB RAM/256GB storage variant and €1,099 for the 12GB RAM/512GB storage variant.

Xiaomi 17 is available in four colour variants: Alpine Pink, Ice Blue, Black, and Venture Green.

Xiaomi’s Premium Market Strategy

The new smartphone will compete against Oppo Find X9, Vivo X300, and OnePlus 15 in the flagship segment. Xiaomi 17, while more compact, still carries a strong Leica-backed camera system.

For users who want elite-grade photography without opting for a larger device, the standard variant of Xiaomi 17 is a good option.
