Onimusha: Way of the Sword is finally here. Capcom revived the fan-favorite samurai series after two decades of pause. On September 4, the game launched worldwide on PlayStation 5, Xbox Series X|S, Nintendo Switch 2, and PC via Steam, the Epic Games Store, and the Microsoft Store.
Once players dive into the experience, they will take control of Miyamoto Musashi as he battles the Genma in a dark version of Edo-era Kyoto. The game focuses on close sword fights, quick parries, counters, and the Oni Gauntlet’s special powers. It brings back the feel of classic Onimusha while giving the series a fresh look.

The game presents combat as the main reason to dive back into the series. Musashi’s sword attacks have weight, and players need to watch enemy moves and pick the right moment to strike. The Oni Gauntlet also lets Musashi absorb souls and use extra powers in battle. These systems make fights feel more focused on skill than button mashing. For Capcom, this could be the comeback the series needed.
Capcom did not try to turn Onimusha into something completely different. The game still has samurai, demons, and tough sword battles at its core. The modern visuals and detailed version of Kyoto, however, make the world feel new.
Miyamoto Musashi also gives the story a strong lead. His journey becomes more interesting as he learns to use the power of the Oni Gauntlet. Players who finish the story can jump back in through New Game+. A harder mode also becomes available after completing the main campaign. This gives skilled players a reason to return and take on the fights again. If players respond well to its combat and story, Capcom could have another classic franchise ready for a bigger future.
