WhatsApp is working on a new feature that may help users communicate more easily and conveniently. WhatsApp is reportedly testing a new feature dubbed ‘Guest Chats,’ which could soon enable users of the popular messaging service on both Android and iOS to communicate with people who don’t have a WhatsApp account or even have the app installed.

This new feature, spotted in beta versions, is yet another effort by WhatsApp to make communication easier, especially when users want to quickly connect with someone without creating a new account or installing another app.

Bridging Quick, One-Time Conversations

At its core, Guest Chats is meant to help users navigate the common problem of wanting to connect with someone who does not have WhatsApp. Instead, the user can create a secure invite link using another messaging service or SMS.

Users can share the invite link with the recipient through email, SMS, and other means, which may open a web-based chat window for the recipient. The recipient can immediately respond to the message sent without needing an account. This is similar to using WhatsApp Web but in a basic form.

This feature could be very useful to many users in many ways, whether for delivery partners, service providers, or even acquaintances who may not have the app.

Privacy Stays Central, Features Remain Limited

Nonetheless, WhatsApp will likely remain committed to its emphasis on privacy. As can be deduced from the early signs, users of the Guest Chats feature will be able to enjoy end-to-end encryption, which will give them the assurance that they are safe, even if the other user of the app is not registered.

As the saying goes, nothing comes for free, and it is also possible that the Guest Chats feature may only support text-based conversations, meaning the user might not be able to share media, send voice messages, make voice or video calls, or even engage in group conversations.

The chat might have a built-in feature that automatically deletes it after some time of inactivity, which shows its transient nature.

Strategic Push to Widen WhatsApp’s Reach

Apart from convenience, Guest Chats may also have wider implications. For example, by reducing barriers to entry, WhatsApp may be able to attract new users. A smooth first experience will encourage them to use the app in the near future.

While there is no word on when this service will roll out fully, this is part of a broader trend in messaging services that focus on accessibility, flexibility, and real-time communication. For millions of people who use this service every day, it will redefine the way they connect.
