WhatsApp is expected to launch a feature that allows cross-language conversations by translating messages within chats. This will provide an easy method for users communicating in different languages to engage with friends, family, or small groups. Importantly, the upgrade ensures privacy by processing data directly on the device.
After the WhatsApp update, a long-press message will activate the translate option. Next, a user can choose the language to which the text is to be translated. Language packs can be reused, eliminating the necessity to re-translate the same content repeatedly.
Translations are available for individual chats, group conversations, and Channel updates, making it simpler for businesses and communities to connect with multilingual groups.
Among the highlights available to Android users is automatic translation across entire chats. Once this feature is activated, all messages received in that conversation are instantly translated into the user's chosen language.
This is particularly handy for ongoing chats with overseas friends, coworkers, or community organizations that regularly use multiple languages.

Currently, WhatsApp provides partial language coverage for Android. Message translation is provided in six languages: Spanish, Hindi, English, Portuguese, Russian, and Arabic.
However, iPhone users have broader coverage and access to translations in more than 19 languages. The larger rollout will take place over the next few months, gradually expanding to more devices and areas.
WhatsApp has highlighted that all translations are done directly on the user's device. This prevents the company from accessing the message content, and the conversations remain private while still allowing for real-time translation.
“We hope this feature breaks down language barriers and lets users connect more meaningfully with loved ones and communities worldwide,” WhatsApp stated in its blog post releasing the update.
For individual messages: Long-press the text, tap Translate, choose the language, and download the language pack for future use.
For Android automatic chat translation: Long-press a message, select Translate, configure your preferred language, and enable automatic translation for the entire chat.
The translation feature is gradually being rolled out for Android and iPhone users. WhatsApp recommends that users download the new app version to access the feature.
This move strengthens WhatsApp's mission to connect people globally by overcoming a major barrier in digital communication: language.
