The United Arab Emirates (UAE) has started a new project to create a commemorative coin using artificial intelligence. The idea is part of a design challenge launched by the Office of Artificial Intelligence, Digital Economy and Remote Work Applications, along with the Central Bank of the UAE. It invites people from across the country to use generative AI tools to design the coin.
The idea was announced during UAE National Code Day, which marks the day Sheikh Mohammed bin Rashid Al Maktoum launched the region’s first e-government on October 29, 2001. That moment began the country’s journey into the digital world.
In this challenge, anyone can take part by using AI tools to design a coin. The design must be round, ready for minting, and follow all ethical and legal rules. The best design will be picked and made into an official commemorative coin by the Central Bank.
Omar Sultan Al Olama, Minister of State for Artificial Intelligence, said the project shows how the UAE is becoming a global leader in technology and innovation. He explained that this idea helps bring people and technology together to shape the country’s future.
Khaled Mohamed Balama, Governor of the Central Bank, said the challenge supports the UAE’s plan to grow a knowledge-based economy. It also gives people a chance to learn, be creative, and explore new ways to use AI in design.
This project is one of the first in the world to use AI for a national coin design. It shows how the UAE continues to move forward in digital innovation while giving everyone a chance to take part.
The AI coin challenge is more than just a design contest. It is a way for the UAE to celebrate its progress in technology and connect people with its digital story. The coin will stand as a reminder of how the country started its digital journey years ago and how it keeps moving toward a smart, modern future.
Through this simple but powerful idea, the UAE is turning creativity and technology into something meaningful for everyone, a coin that reflects pride, progress, and public participation.
