Switch 2 Sales Leak Debunked: Nintendo Sets Record Straight

Switch 2’s Official Sales of 3 Million aren't Right. Recent Reports Talk About A Shocking Truth That Nintendo Fans Should Know

Antara

Nintendo Switch 2, the latest sensation in the handheld console world, was dragged into a controversy. The hype around this console has been high since it was announced. The pre-order count showed how excited Nintendo gamers were about this console. This excitement has been continuing even after a month of its release.

Amidst the high demand, a recent report mentioned Nintendo’s official declaration of Switch 2’s 5 million unit sales is false. This figure was posted on the official website of the company, but it seems to be posted in error. So, what's the actual figure? Let’s check out.

Nintendo Switch 2 Sales Figure: A Simple Leak or Test Data?

Nintendo Switch 2 was released on June 5. After the successful run of eight years, finally, Nintendo Switch finally received its worthy successor with upgraded internal components and features like GameChat and mouse functionality on its Joy-Con controllers. Within a month, this hybrid console has reportedly shattered sales records with more than 5 million sales of Switch 2 units.

Earlier this week, this sales figure was featured on Nintendo’s investor relations page, and multiple websites highlighted this part. However, the latest reports say this sales figure isn’t exact and has been erroneously shared by the game company.

Nintendo realized this error and pulled down the report from the website. According to some experts and analysts, it was a premature sales record that wasn't for the public. They opined, “It seems that Nintendo has put out a sales update for the Nintendo Switch 2 to its investor relations website early by accident.” As per them, the console sold more than 5 million units worldwide as of June 30, 2025.

Nintendo Switch 2: Record-Setting Launch So Far

Switch 2’s 5-million sales claim might be false, but the real sales figure will be more impressive than gamers would have imagined. It’s not that Nintendo exaggerated the numbers, but they actually told a lesser number.

This hybrid Nintendo console shattered multiple sales numbers, as per the industry analysts. David Gibson, a renowned analyst, has estimated that Switch 2 has sold more than 3.5 million units within the first four days after its launch on June 5, a record that hardly any console has ever touched in gaming console history.

If the reports are true that the Nintendo Switch 2 sold more than 5 million units, it has crossed the first-month sales of the PS5. After its global release, PS5 sold 3.4 million in the first month. Additionally, it took 4 months for Nintendo Switch to reach the 2.74 million milestone.

Final Thoughts

To conclude, it can be said that the 5 million sales figure is probably not exact, but it’s not an exaggeration either. It doesn’t diminish the hype around the console but highlights its potential more prominently. The sales numbers are more than what Nintendo erroneously stated. The test data is not for all, but it helped gamers understand the entire scenario.

At this point, no specific data came from Nintendo to shed light on the official sales of Switch 2. Until that comes, gamers can only speculate about the sales and enjoy gaming on the console.
