Slack launched Slack Code on August 20, introducing AI coding agents directly into team collaboration. The Salesforce-owned platform introduced code channels for software projects. These channels let developers and teammates plan, build, review, and track coding work together.
The new feature works inside Slack, where teams can mention supported AI coding agents during project discussions. Slack Code then creates a dedicated workspace around the task. Agents can generate code, prepare plans, show code changes, and create live previews.
Slack currently supports Claude Code, Devin, GitHub Copilot, and Vercel through Slack Code. OpenAI's ChatGPT integration will arrive soon, according to Slack. The feature works across Slack plans, while separate access remains necessary for partner agents.
The setup also gives teams real-time visibility into AI coding work. Developers can review changes, identify bugs, provide feedback, and redirect agents during active tasks. Slack automatically archives completed code channels for future reference and auditing.
GitHub Chief Product Officer Mario Rodriguez said, “humans set direction, agents close the loop.” He added that Copilot can help teams turn shared intent into shippable software.
Slack also plans to take this collaborative agent model beyond software development. Future uses could include marketing campaigns, legal contract reviews, and IT onboarding.
The move positions Slack as a shared workspace where AI agents work alongside teams. It could also reduce isolated coding workflows while keeping human review inside project conversations.
