Nintendo has received fresh ransomware threats from a hacker group named ShadowByt3$. In a social media post, the group claimed to have hacked nearly 1GB of internal data from Nintendo systems. Additionally, it has threatened that if the gaming giant doesn’t respond to the demand, it will expose all the acquired data, including surveys, analysis, bank statement PDFs, and other files.
After the post went viral, Nintendo shared its response, stating that no personal consumer data had been hacked. So far, the console giant has not shared any detailed information about the hack. The exact nature of the alleged stolen data also remains unclear.
Nintendo is one of the most renowned names in the gaming industry. The company has a long history of being targeted by attackers. Previously, in 2025 as well, it faced a similar situation where a hacker group, Crimson Collective, claimed that it had accessed unreleased information from Nintendo’s files.
However, the biggest breach that the gaming company has ever faced happened in 2020. This Gigaleak revealed old game files, development material, and details about projects that had remained hidden for years. Nintendo has also encountered account security issues that affected users in the past.

This is one of the primary reasons that fans have taken the claims seriously. If the files are released, the effects could go beyond simple spoilers. Internal documents may reveal details about upcoming games, development plans, or business decisions. Such information could affect marketing campaigns and future announcements.
The situation looks better for now, but there is concern about employee and partner information if company records are involved. While there is no details available about the extent of the data breach, the possibility of another large leak has put Nintendo back in the spotlight.
