Samsung is bringing hearing assistance features to select Galaxy Buds after receiving US FDA clearance. The company plans to roll out the features gradually in the fourth quarter of 2026.
The update will allow compatible earbuds to function as hearing aids for eligible users. Samsung is introducing the feature through software rather than requiring a separate over-the-counter hearing aid device.
The Hearing Aid feature then uses the results to adjust sound amplification for the user. Samsung says it uses the NAL-NL2 fitting formula, which is also used with prescription hearing aids.
Samsung’s new Hearing Test is registered as Software as a Medical Device (SaMD). Users will be able to access the test through their Galaxy Buds settings and complete it in around five minutes.
The software checks each ear separately and creates an audiogram based on the results. Samsung says the audiogram is similar to the hearing profile produced during a professional hearing evaluation.
The Hearing Aid and Hearing Test features will initially be available on the Galaxy Buds 3 Pro and Galaxy Buds 4 Pro. Samsung plans to introduce them in the US and selected approved markets during the fourth quarter of 2026. The company has not indicated that the features will be available across all Galaxy Buds models.
The earbuds will also offer noise reduction and beamforming. These features are designed to improve speech clarity by reducing unwanted background sounds and focusing on audio coming from in front of the wearer.

The move follows Apple’s expansion of hearing-related capabilities through compatible AirPods. Samsung’s approach adds hearing testing and personalized amplification to its own wireless earbuds.
For users with hearing difficulties, the main change could be convenience. A compatible pair of Galaxy Buds could provide hearing support alongside their existing audio functions, reducing the need for a separate device for some users.
