Reliance Jio has launched JioPC, its first cloud-based desktop solution designed to make any screen a computer. Targeted at users who require a cost-effective yet efficient digital workspace, JioPC leverages the power of the cloud to deliver desktop functionality without needing high-end hardware.

The much-anticipated JioPC launch marks a new chapter in India's affordable computing revolution. The Reliance Jio virtual desktop enables users to access their workspace from anywhere, using just a basic internet connection.

A Virtual PC for Everyone

JioPC is not a physical device like other traditional personal computers; it is a cloud-powered desktop environment accessed through a Jio set-top box, which is available to all JioFiber or Jio AirFiber customers.

For a starting subscription price of Rs. 400 a month, users get a virtual PC experience with AI tools, premium required software, and as much as 512 GB of cloud storage, and new users receive a free one-month trial.

Hardware Requirements and Setup

With the JioPC launch, Reliance aims to empower users with cloud-based PCs that require minimal hardware. To use JioPC, you will need a Jio Set-Top Box, a compatible display or TV with an HDMI port, a keyboard, and a mouse. The setup process is straightforward:

  • Power on your Jio Set-Top Box.

  • Launch the JioPC app from the Apps section.

  • Connect your peripherals.

  • Sign in using your registered mobile number or create a new account.

  • Access your virtual desktop instantly.

The Cloud PC in India initiative is set to benefit remote areas where traditional hardware is hard to maintain. This plug-and-play system is designed to deliver the performance of a Rs. 50,000 PC, making computing more accessible and affordable for a wider audience.

Features and Capabilities

Using a Linux-based Ubuntu operating system, JioPC can perform web browsing, document editing, programming, and online education-related activities. It has access to Jio Workspace, LibreOffice, browser-based Microsoft Office, and Adobe Express tools for design and creativity; however, it does not currently support any hardware peripherals, including webcams and printers.

Each user is granted a virtual machine that has been provided with four CPUs, 8GB of RAM, and 100GB of cloud storage, which can be increased to 512GB under premium plans. The service is built to be scalable, allowing users to upgrade their performance on demand without touching the hardware.

Subscription Plans and Value

While the base subscription plan costs Rs. 400 per month, users can opt for longer subscriptions. These include a quarterly plan for Rs. 1,499, which offers one month free compared to the monthly subscription, and an annual plan for Rs. 4,599, which provides 15 months of service.

None of the subscription plans are contract-based, and all technical maintenance with the service is performed on the operator's end as with a standard desktop, usually seamless to the user. With purchasing strategies aimed at entry-level students and home users, JioPC operates as a lower-cost alternative to Windows and other cloud solutions, while offering no annual fees and no cancellation fees.

A New Era of Computing

Jio PC is the ideal option for users seeking an economical path to computing while avoiding the complexity and expense of conventional PCs.

With its cloud-first approach, easy setup, rich assortment of productivity and creative tools, and JioPC can be a game-changer in India’s digital landscape. Bundled with JioFiber Devices, the setup ensures seamless connectivity for uninterrupted cloud access and affordable computing.
