Sony has introduced new benefits for PlayStation Plus subscribers, expanding the membership beyond gaming with offers linked to entertainment, wellness and shopping. The additions include a three-month YouTube Premium trial, a Calm meditation app trial, Audible discounts, and deals on Sony products.

However, the announcement has not been met with an entirely positive response from the PlayStation community. Several players have questioned the value of these additional benefits, saying they would rather see Sony focus on making physical copies of games more widely available.

YouTube Premium, Calm and Audible Offers Added

The latest PlayStation Plus perks give subscribers access to benefits beyond the console experience. The three-month YouTube Premium trial is among the prominent additions, while the Calm offer provides access to a meditation app.

Sony has also included discounts related to Audible and selected Sony products, along with other promotional offers.

These benefits are intended to add value to PlayStation Plus memberships. However, their appeal may vary depending on whether subscribers already use these services or prefer gaming-related rewards.

Players Demand More Physical PlayStation Games

Some PlayStation users have focused on a different concern: physical game releases. Players responding to Sony's announcement on social media have argued that access to physical discs would be a more meaningful benefit than trials and discounts for third-party services.

The criticism comes as Sony is reportedly preparing to stop producing discs for new PS4 and PS5 games in January 2028. The development has raised concerns among players who prefer buying physical copies and retaining access to their game collections.

Some users have also mocked the newly announced perks, reiterating that physical releases remain their priority.

Sony Faces Growing Debate Over Digital Ownership

The discussion highlights a broader concern among console players about the future of physical gaming. While digital downloads and subscription services have become increasingly important, physical editions continue to appeal to consumers who want tangible copies of their purchases.

The report suggests that repeated complaints could eventually affect how some customers spend on PlayStation games and subscriptions. Players could cancel memberships or purchase games through other channels if they feel their preferences are being overlooked.

A complete reversal of Sony's reported disc-production plans seems unlikely, but continued customer dissatisfaction could pressure the company to reconsider its approach.

For now, Sony's latest PS Plus benefits offer more than gaming, but the reaction suggests many subscribers still prioritize access to physical games.
