OpenAI is reportedly preparing its largest ChatGPT redesign since the platform launched in 2022. The planned overhaul would combine coding, AI agents, image tools, and external services into a single interface.
However, several central details remain based on familiar sources. OpenAI has not publicly confirmed the reported “superapp” plan, its rollout schedule or a fixed stock market listing date.
The redesigned ChatGPT would focus more closely on completing tasks instead of mainly answering questions. Users could access coding support, automated workflows and third-party services without moving between separate platforms.
According to the Financial Times report, OpenAI plans to give Codex greater space and resources. Codex helps users write, review and manage software code through natural-language instructions.
AI agents would also play a larger role within the service. These systems can complete several connected steps, such as gathering information, managing calendars or working across business applications.
Nevertheless, the exact range of supported actions remains unclear. The report describes the product as a ‘superapp,’ but OpenAI has not released a full list of planned tools.
OpenAI reportedly plans to update ChatGPT’s website and mobile applications within the coming weeks. New prompts may guide users toward Codex, image generation and selected partner services.
Platforms such as Canva and Booking.com could receive more visibility through these connections. Users may then create designs or manage travel-related tasks through tools available inside ChatGPT.
The planned interface could also place OpenAI’s services under one clearer product structure. Currently, users can choose from several features, models and specialised tools across the platform.
However, the report does not explain how external services would handle user data, payments or account access. It also remains uncertain whether every feature would become available globally at launch.
OpenAI’s business customers have become central to its growth plans. About two million businesses using Codex and related services reportedly generate nearly 40% of company revenue.
This share could reach 50% by the end of 2026, according to the report. Most Codex users also hold paid accounts, making coding tools an important part of OpenAI’s commercial strategy.
Meanwhile, ChatGPT has more than 900 million weekly active users and over 50 million consumer subscribers. OpenAI confirmed those figures earlier this year while outlining its wider growth plans.
Greater enterprise use could help OpenAI build steadier revenue from subscriptions and workplace products. The company is also competing with Anthropic, whose Claude coding tools have attracted business users.
The redesign comes as OpenAI reportedly prepares for a possible public listing. Reuters reported in May that the company could submit a confidential United States IPO filing within weeks.
Reports have also linked Goldman Sachs and Morgan Stanley to early preparations. Some accounts suggest a possible September debut, although no formal prospectus or timetable has been announced.
