Instagram is ready to launch its official iPad App after years of requests from iPad users. Until now, iPad users had to rely on the iPhone app or Instagram for the web, which were not optimized for larger screens.
The new app promises a better experience, with all the main features of the phone version adapted for the iPad. Instagram head Adam Mosseri confirmed that the application is designed to utilize the bigger display fully.
With an Instagram iPad app launch, there will be a default Reels screen to scroll through short videos on a large display more comfortably. The user can view stories at the top, whereas key features, such as Following feed, DMs, Search, Explore, and Notifications, are accessible from a sidebar.
The feed has three viewing options: "All" for recommended posts, "Friends" for posts from mutuals, and "Latest" for chronological updates. Feeds can be reorganized as per individual preference.
One improvement is viewing comments alongside the video while watching Reels on iPad. The Instagram Messages tab lets one open a conversation while keeping all active chats visible on the side, making it easier to browse and chat. The iPad app finally makes effective use of the large iPad screen instead of just scaling up the phone’s platform, addressing a gripe that had frustrated users for years.
