No Apple Smart Ring: iPhone Fans Disappointed

Samsung continues to dominate health tech with Galaxy smart ring

The smart rings have been in talks lately for bringing together health tracking and wearability in a compact ring design, as the name suggests.

Early in July, South Korean Giant Samsung announced its very first Galaxy Ring. Apple, on the other hand, has no plans to enter the smart ring market anytime soon, according to a recent report by Bloomberg's Mark Gurman.

No Smart Ring in the Books for Apple Despite Market Gains

The company had explored the concept at one point but does not have any current developmental work going on for smart rings. This decision comes at a time when many brands view the smart ring as an organic next step from traditional smartwatches.

Samsung Leads the Charge

Samsung's Galaxy Ring comes preloaded with the company's range of health capabilities, similar to Apple Watch’s, such as heart rate monitoring and sleep tracking. It utilizes Samsung’s Galaxy AI technology to monitor sleep scores, movement during sleep, sleep latency, heart, and respiratory rates.

If Apple did make a smart ring, it would probably come with features similar to what you would get in its flagship smartwatch. Gurman mentioned that earlier a subset of Apple's industrial design team had proposed developing a smart ring as a low-cost alternative to the Apple Watch. However, it seems that the company’s executives squashed this idea.

History and Patents of Apple Smart Ring Development

Apple has patented ring-like devices before igniting rumors. However, the company patents any and every concept, and most of it does not even hit the market.

Apple saying ‘no’ to smart ring production is surely a treat to its competitors, leaving room for major players like Samsung to continue to dominate the smart ring market. However, only time will tell if Apple changes its stance to delight its iPhone fans.
