Nintendo fully revealed The Legend of Zelda: Ocarina of Time remake, confirming a November 5, 2026, release date for Nintendo Switch 2. The game will arrive exactly two weeks before Rockstar Games launches Grand Theft Auto 6 on November 19.
Nintendo showed the first gameplay footage during The Legend of Zelda 40th Anniversary Direct on September 8. The presentation offered a closer look at the remake's new graphics, movement, camera system and other changes made to the 1998 Nintendo 64 game.
Nintendo has rebuilt Ocarina of Time with completely overhauled visuals for Switch 2. However, the company has retained the characters, locations and story that formed the original adventure. Series producer Eiji Aonuma demonstrated the game during the anniversary presentation.
The remake also introduces fully voiced cutscenes, expanded character dialogue and symphonic orchestral music. Nintendo has reworked both camera and movement controls. Players can use modern camera movements while Link can now jump and dash using updated controls.
Aonuma explained Nintendo's approach while discussing the changes made for the remake. He said the development team did not simply focus on making the graphics realistic. Instead, Nintendo sought to recreate the look of the original game for modern hardware while keeping its familiar design.
“Not only have the visuals evolved, but the gameplay has been improved,” Nintendo said during the gameplay presentation.
The gameplay reveal showed Link exploring Hyrule, fighting enemies and using the Ocarina. The musical instrument remains part of the main gameplay system and allows players to perform melodies used throughout the adventure.
Nintendo's official listing confirms that the remake has been built from the ground up for Nintendo Switch 2. It supports handheld, tabletop and TV play and remains a single-player title. The listed digital file size is around 27GB, although Nintendo notes that some product information could change before release.
The remake will also work with ZELDA NOTES through the Nintendo Switch App on compatible mobile devices. The service can track daily accomplishments and help players find certain in-game locations. Players can also use supported Zelda amiibo figures to receive in-game extras.
Nintendo has scheduled The Legend of Zelda: Ocarina of Time for November 5, 2026. Rockstar Games, meanwhile, has confirmed that Grand Theft Auto 6 will arrive on PlayStation 5 and Xbox Series X|S on November 19, 2026. This places the two major releases exactly 14 days apart.
The remake forms part of Nintendo's wider celebration of The Legend of Zelda's 40th anniversary. Nintendo has also announced anniversary hardware and accessories connected to the series.
Additionally, Nintendo recently confirmed that its upcoming live-action The Legend of Zelda film is being developed with Arad Productions and Sony Pictures Entertainment. The announcements extend the anniversary plans beyond the November release of the Ocarina of Time remake.
