Microsoft is upgrading Copilot Vision’s AI assistant capabilities with the launch of Desktop Share. This feature builds on the existing Copilot Vision. It offers users a more immersive, hands-on AI experience by allowing full desktop sharing. The feature is currently available to Windows users in the US.
Originally, Copilot Vision allowed users to share only app windows or browser tabs. With Desktop Share, users can now opt to share their entire desktop. This gives Copilot broader context and enables it to assist with a wider range of tasks, from photo editing to navigating complex interfaces.
To use the feature, users can click the glasses icon in the Copilot composer. They can then select the desktop or a specific app window to share. Once active, Microsoft AI assistant provides real-time feedback, answers, and coaching based on what’s visible on the screen. Users can end sharing at any time by clicking 'Stop' or the 'X' button.
Unlike Microsoft’s controversial Recall feature, Desktop Share is optional. Copilot will only be able to see the content when the user expressly enables this feature. Microsoft has emphasized that no screen data is recorded or tracked passively, reaffirming its commitment to privacy.
This update is part of Microsoft's Copilot Labs initiative. It is available to all Windows 10 and Windows 11 users in the United States at no charge. Microsoft will continue to roll out the feature as it receives user feedback and refines the experience.
Microsoft's latest upgrade to Copilot Vision is a significant advancement for real-time AI-powered assistance. This new capability enables the AI to view on-screen content, applications, and workflows simultaneously in real-time.
The live view will allow Copilot to make suggestions based on context (similar to if a live assistant were beside you), provide troubleshooting help, or find information relevant to the user's display. It transforms an interaction from AI being a conversational agent to a perceptive digital assistant.
