LG has launched its new UltraGear 27GX790B, a cutting-edge 1440p Tandem OLED gaming monitor. The new LG model boasts an unbelievable 720Hz refresh mode and DisplayPort 2.1 support. The monitor delivers ultra-fast motion clarity, better pixel response, and smoothness for competitive gamers.  However, it is currently launched only in the Chinese market.

LG UltraGear 27GX790B Specifications

LG UltraGear 27GX790B features a 26.5-inch 4th-gen OLED panel with a 2560 x 1440 resolution. It supports 48Hz to 540Hz at its native QHD setting. The model can also switch to 720Hz in HD mode.

This approach gives esports players the headroom to play high-FPS titles. However, it keeps QHD available for users when resolution is required at high raw speeds.

An Unmatched Experience for Gamers

LG rates the panel at 0.02ms GTG, which is coupled with OLEDs' instantaneous pixel response. It provides clean motion and reduced overshoot in fast shooters. Viewing angles are wide at 178 degrees in both directions.

The 4th Gen OLED panel uses LG Display’s 4-stack Primary RGB Tandem structure. It is designed for better brightness handling, more stable performance, and richer colour accuracy.

Brightness can reach up to 335 nits in SDR and up to 1500 nits in HDR on this panel.

The monitor provides deep blacks and consistent highlight control with a 1,500,000:1 static contrast ratio and pixel-level dimming.

The ergonomic stand allows height, swivel, tilt, and pivot adjustments, and LG’s Hexagon Lighting sits on the rear for ambient bias lighting.

The display also covers 99.5 per cent of the DCI-P3 colour space and renders in 10-bit, which provides more accurate gradients and HDR colour reproduction.

LG’s AGLR coating aims to cut reflections and maintain image clarity under indoor lighting.

Record Speed and Brightness

The model received VESA ClearMR 21000 certification. This indicates a strong control over blur during rapid motion. It supports VESA DisplayHDR True Black 500. The monitor minimizes ghosting and motion blur with a response time of just 0.02 milliseconds.

It is also supported by AMD FreeSync Premium Pro and Nvidia G-Sync Compatible for tear-free rendition across the entire Hz scale.

Connectivity Features

The monitor has the following connectivity options: two HDMI 2.1 ports, a DisplayPort 2.1 input, and a USB-C upstream port with DisplayPort Alt Mode.

Two USB-A ports support peripherals, and a 4-pole headphone jack adds DTS X support for headsets.

Final Thoughts

LG has set a new benchmark that rivals are racing to catch up with. It is brighter, more vibrant, and faster than previous WOLED monitors. The company has not announced pricing or global availability yet. The pricing will determine how it stacks up against the Asus and ViewSonic models using similar panels.

The combination of 1440p Tandem OLED technology, 720Hz mode, and DisplayPort 2.1 connectivity is a strong statement from LG about the future of ultra-fast esports hardware. Real-world adoption of 720Hz gaming will depend on GPU capabilities and game optimization.
