Lenovo unveiled Project Swan at IFA 2026 in Berlin, introducing a rollable laptop concept that expands from 14 to 17 inches. The ThinkBook concept targets professionals who need portability and more workspace.
Lenovo uses a flexible OLED panel that rolls horizontally from the laptop chassis when additional screen space becomes necessary. The approach keeps the laptop compact while creating a wider 17-inch workspace for demanding tasks.
Project Swan starts as a conventional 14-inch laptop and expands into a 17-inch 16:9 display. A motorized mechanism moves the flexible screen sideways without increasing the laptop's base footprint.
Lenovo designed the concept for multitasking, document comparisons, presentations, dashboards and creative workflows. The concept also runs on an Intel Core Ultra 7 processor based on Lunar Lake.
The rollable laptop measures about 17.9mm thick and weighs around 1.6kg. Those dimensions make the concept lighter than many traditional 17-inch laptops, while offering similar screen space when expanded. The horizontal design also differs from Lenovo's earlier ThinkBook Plus Gen 6 Rollable, which increased screen height instead.
Project Swan raises a major question around durability before any commercial launch. The moving OLED mechanism could face wear, dust exposure, and hinge stress through repeated use. Battery consumption could also increase when the larger display operates for longer periods.
Lenovo has not announced price or retail availability for Project Swan. The company currently classifies the device as a proof of concept. Still, the design points toward laptops that could adapt their screen size based on changing work needs.
