iPhone Duo vs Galaxy Z Fold 8: Apple Loses on Price

Apple's iPhone Duo enters the foldable market against Samsung's Galaxy Z Fold 8, priced over Rs. 1 lakh higher. Both share a similar fold design but differ in chips, cameras, and software, leaving Samsung's lower price and experience appealing to value-focused buyers.

Apple launched the iPhone Duo, its first foldable phone. It steps straight into a fight with Samsung's Galaxy Z Fold 8, the book-style foldable that's been around for years. Both phones fold shut like a passport and open into a big screen.

But the similarities end pretty fast once you look at the price tags. In India, the iPhone Duo starts at Rs. 2,99,900. The Galaxy Z Fold 8 starts at Rs. 1,79,999. That's a gap of more than Rs. 1 lakh, and it's the first thing most buyers will notice.

Display and design

The iPhone Duo comes with a 7.6-inch inner screen and a smaller 5.4-inch outer screen. The primary panel features Apple's Super Retina XDR OLED, which can refresh at up to 120Hz and can reach bright outdoor levels of 3,000 nits.

In terms of inner screen size, Samsung's Fold 8 is the same at 7.6 inches, but it's a little bigger on the cover screen with a 5.5-inch display. Fold it closed, and both phones look and feel like a typical smartphone. Unfold it, and you'll get something more like a small tablet.

Power, cameras, and software

Under the hood, Apple has gone with its A20 Pro chip. Samsung is running the Snapdragon 8 Elite Gen 5. Both count as flagship-level chips, just built for different ecosystems. The iPhone Duo carries dual 48MP rear cameras, wide and ultra-wide, plus some camera tricks made for its folding shape.

Samsung's setup covers more ground with extra lenses. On software, the Duo runs iOS 27 with Apple Intelligence and Siri. The Fold 8 sticks with Android and Samsung's own Galaxy AI tools.

At the end of the day, price is what separates these two. The iPhone Duo sits firmly at the top of the market. Samsung's cheaper price, backed by its head start in foldables, gives budget-conscious buyers a real reason to look past the Apple name.
