IT stocks had a good trading session as buying returned to the sector. Reportedly, Tech Mahindra led the rally with the biggest gain among major IT companies. TCS and Infosys also moved up as traders closed many of their short positions. At the same time, HCLTech and Wipro saw fresh buying, showing that many investors expect the stocks to keep moving higher.
Tech Mahindra’s futures rose 2.30% to Rs 1,675, while open interest increased 9.86%. Similarly, TCS, Infosys and HCLTech futures gained between 1% and 2%, but open interest declined in each contract. Reports have pointed out that TCS August futures rose 2.06%, but the open interest declined to 0.17%. Similarly, HCLTech futures rose 1.94%, while open interest fell 0.09%. Wipro futures also rose 0.91%, but the open interest fell 0.26%.
The latest rise is not only about one strong trading day. It also shows that investors are moving money into different sectors. After strong moves in banking and other sectors, many traders are now looking at IT stocks for fresh opportunities.
The market data also points in that direction. Infosys saw short covering, while Tech Mahindra attracted new buying rather than traders closing old positions. This is often seen as a stronger sign of confidence.
