Travellers can now complete Digi Yatra registration with a driving licence instead of Aadhaar. The updated app retrieves the verified document through DigiLocker. This change gives new and existing users another government-issued identity option for contactless airport processing.
This choice serves domestic passengers using supported airport travel routes.
Passengers can also store both credentials in their Digi Yatra Wallet. They may then choose either document for primary verification. The selected credential helps match the traveller’s name with the boarding pass at supported airport checkpoints.
New users can select a driving licence while creating their Digi Yatra profile. Existing users can add the document to an active account. The feature does not remove Aadhaar, which continues to work as an enrolment option.
The driving licence must appear in the passenger’s DigiLocker account before the app can retrieve it. Users must grant access when prompted. DigiLocker provides authentic digital documents issued by government departments and registered authorities.
Digi Yatra Foundation CEO Suresh Khadakbhavi described the addition as “another step towards making digital air travel more inclusive.” He said the platform can support several trusted identity credentials. The company also said users retain control over their personal information.
Passengers should install or update the official Digi Yatra application before starting. A new user can open the registration page and choose Driving Licence. The app then redirects the user to DigiLocker for consent and document retrieval.
An existing user should sign in and open the Digi Yatra Wallet. The user can select the option for adding another credential. After DigiLocker verifies and supplies the licence, the app stores it in the wallet.
Passengers with Aadhaar and driving licence credentials can choose one as their Primary Credential. They should confirm that the selected document carries the same name shown on their flight booking. A mismatch may interrupt verification at airport entry points.
Users should check every displayed detail before confirming the credential. They should also protect their phone, account credentials, and one-time passwords. Travellers should never share login codes with people claiming to offer registration assistance.
Digi Yatra operates only at participating airports and supported checkpoints. Therefore, passengers should confirm availability at their departure airport before travelling. They should also check whether their airline and terminal support the service for that journey.
The platform provides an optional route through airport entry and passenger processing. It does not make Digi Yatra registration compulsory. Travellers can continue using standard airport procedures when they do not want facial recognition-based access.
Passengers should still carry an accepted identity document during travel. Airport staff may request it during manual checks or technical interruptions. Airline and security requirements continue to apply even when the Digi Yatra app accepts the driving licence.
Before leaving for the airport, users should add their boarding pass to the app. They should verify the flight details and credential choice. A charged phone and an accessible physical identification document can help during unexpected checks.
The driving licence option mainly changes account enrolment and identity selection. It does not expand Digi Yatra to every airport. Passengers must follow local airport instructions and use regular counters where the digital service is unavailable.
