Google has introduced a major update for the Gemini app, introducing a new way to edit images using Nano Banana. It allows users to draw or annotate directly on photos. The update aims to make AI interactions more intuitive, visually accurate, and user-friendly for beginners.

AI Drawing Edit Feature

Google is expanding its Gemini app’s capabilities with two major updates. The first change is focused on image prompting, which eliminates the need for typing out detailed instructions.

Users can now guide Gemini visually. After adding an image to the prompt box, you will be guided to a new ‘Mark Up’ editor. This interface allows sketches, highlighting specific areas, and even pointing to elements for specific editing.

Individuals can also use the text tool to write prompts onto the image itself. Traditional text prompts are also available.

According to Google's recent statements, “This approach makes image-based requests more intuitive, especially when users want to change or analyse a specific part of a photo without explaining it in words.”

This transformative feature is rolling out across Android, iOS, and the web. Users will receive a short introduction explaining the feature when they upload an image for the first time.

Google SynthID Verification

AI-generated videos are becoming harder to distinguish from real footage. To combat this issue, Gemini now delivers stronger tools for identifying AI-generated content. Google has expanded SynthID verification from images to videos; users can upload videos up to 100MB in size and 90 seconds long.

Following this, Gemini discloses if the content was created or edited using Google AI. The system is designed to detect any presence of SynthID watermarks, both in visuals and audio. It can also provide per-minute breakdown details about the origin as well as the editing patterns of AI content.

Gemini also confirms that SynthID was found in a specific audio segment. However, it assures the visuals and audio will remain unaltered. This can improve transparency across diverse workflows.

The video and image verification is available across all Gemini-supported languages and regions.

Final Thoughts

Google’s aim to position Gemini as a practical tool for editing, verification, and creative work is more prominent than ever. The tech giant is committed to making AI interactions feel more natural and less dependent on precise language.

Amidst the growth of concerns regarding artificial intelligence integration, visual prompting, and built-in detection features, this update could play a key role in how users trust and interact with generative AI.
