Google Play users faced issues accessing the platform on Tuesday, with some users seeing a ‘500 error’ while others were unable to download or update apps.

The disruption does not appear to be a complete nationwide outage, however, several users reported that Google Play was not functioning normally. According to the website performance-tracking platform Downdetector, nearly 450 users reported issues with Google Play.

A ‘500 error’ generally indicates a problem on the server side rather than an issue with a user’s phone or internet connection. In this case, the error suggests that the problem could be linked to Google’s systems.

Google’s Play status dashboard currently shows an incident affecting “Play Billing Purchases, Play Developer Subscriptions and In-App Purchases API and Play Subscriptions Renewal and Management.”

Google’s status update said, “We’re investigating reports of an issue with Play Billing Purchases, Play Developer Subscriptions and In-App Purchases API and Play Subscriptions Renewal and Management. We will provide more information shortly.”

The company added that affected users can access the services but may encounter error messages, high latency, and/or other unexpected behavior.

Users reported different problems while trying to use Google Play. Some are seeing a server error when opening parts of the platform, while others are unable to download or update apps.

One Reddit user reported seeing the message “Something went wrong - Server error.” Another user said the web version of Google Play was displaying a 500 error.

The reports indicate that the disruption is affecting some Google Play users, although there is currently no confirmation of a full nationwide outage. For users encountering the error, the problem appears to be on Google’s side rather than with their internet connection or device.
