Google is rolling out a redesigned Gemini overlay across Android phones, introducing sparkling animations and Google's latest visual design. The update brings the Neural Expressive design language to more devices through the Google app. Android users can now see glowing particles and floating dots surrounding the familiar Ask Gemini interface.
The refreshed Gemini overlay began appearing through Google's latest app update on October 29, 2026. Previously, the animation appeared on Pixel 11 devices, limiting access to Google's newer visual experience. The wider rollout now extends the redesigned interface to Android users without requiring a new Pixel phone.
The biggest change appears when users activate Gemini over another application. Small sparkling effects and colored dots surround the Ask Gemini input box during its opening animation. The visual treatment gives the assistant a more dynamic appearance without changing its core functionality.
Google has also adjusted the input box after the animation finishes. Its edges now feature subtle shading, creating a softer and slightly three-dimensional appearance. The difference becomes more noticeable in dark mode, while light mode shows fewer visible changes.
The redesign focuses on presentation rather than introducing new artificial intelligence features. Gemini continues to provide on-screen assistance without requiring users to leave their current applications. Users can activate the overlay through supported shortcuts, including voice commands and the power button.
Android users can access the new Gemini animation by updating the Google app through the Play Store. The rollout may not appear immediately on every device, as Google distributes app features gradually. Force-stopping and reopening the Google app could help trigger the updated interface.
The expansion marks another step in Google's effort to create a consistent visual identity across its AI products. By extending the Pixel 11-inspired design to other Android phones, Google brings its refreshed Gemini experience to a wider audience.
