Google announced the 2026 Google Play Accelerator India cohort on August 3, selecting 20 AI-powered startups. The companies work across education, healthcare, gaming, agriculture, finance, e-commerce, productivity, lifestyle, and entertainment.

The three-month program will provide support on AI integration, app quality, security, growth, and monetization. Google will not take equity from the selected companies. The program will also connect founders with Google Play teams and Google products.

Google Play Accelerator India Backs AI Startups

The 2026 cohort includes startups that use artificial intelligence to solve daily problems in India. Their products cover access to farm machinery, chronic care support, exam preparation, digital payments, online shopping, and mobile gaming.

Google said the selected companies show how Indian founders are building AI into consumer apps and games. The accelerator will focus on improving their products for local users while preparing them for wider markets.

Aditya Swamy, Managing Director of Google Play Partnerships, said, “India’s next wave of app innovation is being built with AI at the centre. Through Google Play Accelerator India, we want to support founders across the full journey, from product quality and AI integration to growth, security, monetization, and global scale.”

He added, “The 2026 cohort reflects the ambition of Indian startups to build trusted, useful products for India and the world.”

Three-Month Program Targets App Quality and Growth

Over the next three months, Google specialists will work with the startups on product design, performance, user safety, and business growth. The support will also cover responsible AI use and ways to improve app reliability.

Moreover, the program will help companies study user needs, improve retention, and build stronger monetization plans. Founders will receive practical guidance rather than direct funding, while retaining full ownership of their businesses.

Paul Ravindranath, Regional Lead for Developer and Startup Programs at Google, said, “Google Play Accelerator India is designed to give high-potential app and game startups practical, hands-on support at the stage where it matters most.”

He said Google will work closely with the founders on “product quality, responsible AI integration, security, growth, and monetization.” The company also aims to help the startups strengthen their apps for users in India and other markets.

Google Links Play Expertise With Wider Technology Stack

The program combines Google Play’s app distribution and product knowledge with tools from the wider Google platform. Startups can use this support to test AI features, improve technical systems, strengthen privacy controls, and prepare their products for larger user bases.

Meanwhile, Google continues to position India as a market for app development. The company said local founders are creating products that address practical needs across the economy, from healthcare access to small business payments.

The selected startups will also receive guidance suited to their business sectors and growth stages. Google plans to help each company identify product gaps, improve user trust, and build services that can operate across markets.

The 2026 Google Play Accelerator India cohort also reflects growing demand for AI-based consumer tools. Google will use the program to help startups build safer and more useful services while meeting app quality standards.

Ravindranath said, “This cohort reflects the depth of India’s app ecosystem and the growing ambition of founders to build AI-powered products that solve real everyday problems.”
