Fireflies.ai has launched Fireflies Talk, a voice-dictation feature designed to let users speak instead of type across the apps they use every day. The tool is available on Mac and Windows through the Fireflies desktop app and offers unlimited dictation on every Fireflies plan, including the free tier.
The idea is straightforward: Users click within a text field, hold a keyboard shortcut, speak naturally and release the key. The resulting text appears directly where the cursor is positioned, without requiring users to open a separate transcription window.
Talk is designed to work wherever users normally enter text. That includes Gmail, Slack, Google Docs, ChatGPT, CRM fields, and other applications with text boxes. According to Fireflies, the feature can also adapt the formatting depending on where the dictation is being used.
For example, dictated email text can be formatted like an email, while Slack messages remain shorter and conversational. In Slack, Talk can also recognise names and turn them into @mentions when the relevant screen context is available.
The system removes filler words and false starts and adds punctuation automatically while retaining the meaning of what the user said. Fireflies says Talk supports more than 90 languages.
Unlike many standalone voice-dictation services that charge for extended usage, Fireflies is making Talk available without a separate subscription. There is no word limit, and users do not need to upgrade their existing Fireflies plan to access the feature. Mobile support for iOS and Android is planned but is not available yet.
The company is positioning Talk as an extension of its existing workplace assistant rather than a separate product. According to the company, more than 20 million people have used its platform, which has traditionally focused on meeting transcription, summaries and follow-up tasks.

According to Fireflies, dictation text is stored on the user's device and is not used to train its models. However, its supplemental terms clarify that audio, transcribed text, and optional Screen Context are sent to Fireflies and its listed service providers for processing. The company says this information is not stored on its servers after processing.
Screen Context is optional and can be switched off. Fireflies also advises users not to use Talk while viewing sensitive information such as passwords, payment details or protected health information.
For now, Talk gives Fireflies users a way to move between speaking and typing without leaving the application they are working in.
