Fairphone has introduced the Fairbuds 2, a new pair of wireless earbuds featuring a smaller design, replaceable batteries and improved audio technology. The earbuds will launch in the US on November 2 for USD 119. They are already available in the UK for USD 130 and across Europe for USD 132.39 through Fairphone's online store.

Better Audio and Replaceable Batteries

The Fairbuds 2 are 37% smaller than their predecessors. Their charging case is also 32% smaller, making the updated model more compact for everyday use. Despite the reduced size, users can replace the batteries in both the earbuds and the case within minutes.

Fairphone has equipped the earbuds with 11mm dynamic biocellulose drivers designed to improve sound quality. Users can also adjust audio settings through an equalizer in the companion smartphone app.

The earbuds use Bluetooth 6.0 and support the LC3 and Sony LDAC high-resolution audio codecs, alongside SBC and AAC. Three microphones in each earbud support active noise cancellation (ANC).

Fairphone claims up to six hours of music playback with ANC enabled. Battery life increases to eight hours with noise cancellation switched off. The charging case extends the total listening time to 40 hours. Bluetooth Multipoint allows the earbuds to connect with up to six devices simultaneously. They also carry an IP54 rating for protection against dust and water splashes.

Repairability And Sustainability

The Fairbuds 2 continue Fairphone's focus on repairable electronics. Their replaceable batteries can help extend the product's useful life and reduce the need to replace the entire device when battery performance declines.

The company says 49% of the materials used in the earbuds come from recycled sources. Fairphone also highlights fair working conditions in production and describes the product as e-waste-neutral through its recycling program.

The new earbuds join the Fairbuds XL in Fairphone's audio lineup. Their combination of repairability, noise cancellation and updated connectivity places them in the market for compact wireless earbuds. The US launch is scheduled for November 2 at USD 119. Buyers in the UK and Europe can already purchase the Fairbuds 2 through Fairphone's online shop.
